Reed valve problem LTD

Post by Big-Bob » Wed Aug 03, 2011 11:11 am

Hi, my name is Bob, I am new here. I have an '85 LTD, which I bought about 4 months ago. The bike has always had an unstable idle, and made a chirping noise while running. I finally found the cause of the noise, and hopefully the poor idle. The reed valves are broken. There are two of them, one for the right two cylinders, and one for the left two cylinders. They are connected together by a hose, and then another hose connects them to the air valve. The problem is that both valves have a short piece of rubber hose GLUED onto them, where the fittings connect to that connect them together. The hoses were badly deteriorated and split, creating a vacuum leak, which was the source of the noise, and was probably causing the air valve to not work properly. I bought some used ones, but the rubber hoses on those also split while installing them. New ones are no longer available. Does anyone have any idea how to deal with this? I am pretty good at improvising things, and have come up with a few possibilities, but there are problems with all of them. I'm hoping someone else may have already come up with a workable solution to this problem. Thanks, Bob.

18601-MJ1-791 (replaces 18601-MG9-005) 004 $14.85 $9.40

I don't think this is what you are looking for but they are listed as reed valves for the LTD, requiring 4 of them at 9.40 each?? ... JPMQ5508R0
