1200 Aspencade Cylinder head/ cylinder errosion

Post by rrmiller73 » Wed Nov 11, 2009 8:57 pm

Just bought a "running" 1984 1200 Aspencade project. I am an aircraft mechanic by trade and thought I would try a project new to me. I found both right cylinders had no compression. Pulled the head and found a blown head gasket. I am having a local machine shop mill the head and freshen up the vavles. My concern is the cylinders themself. The inner steel liners look fine and are still flat checked with a straight edge but there is quite a bit of errosion on the aluminum cyl. casting that surrounds the cyl. liner. It looks like the head gasket steel ring is crushed and held in place by the steel liner (which look good). Anyone have any advice here on wether or not this could be a problem? Rod Miller PS I've been out of riding for a while and look forward to geting back on.
