Information and questions on GL1200 Goldwings (1984-1987)

After two years of sitting, I replaced the battery, air filter, and plugs on the 1200I. When I started it, full choke ran about 2000 RPM, but the moment I gave it any throttle, it would drop RPM and then quit if I didn't release the throttle. I added Sea Foam and ran on the choke till warmed up mid-temp, but the throttle had the same effect. Waited two days and restarted on choke. Smoke emitted for about 15 seconds and then I was able to get full choke of about 3000 RPM, but throttle still killed. Half choke runs at about 1200 RPM with some 100 - 200 RPM variations. I'd certainly appreciate any ideas or suggestions.

First I would let the seafoam work in your carbs. a little more but more then likely they will need to be cleaned. Next change all fluids,oil brakes,clutch rear drive fluid and moly all splines. Next and this is a biggie BELTS,BELTS change them if you dont know when they were last replaced you can get them at napa a lot cheaper then dealership this should get you started. Oh and change your spark plugs too. good luck Hal
