I have an 85 GL1200I, and on initial start up and run, the engine spits/sputters like it is misfiring. After warm up around 10 minutes all is normal. This happens on hot and cold days? Any suggestions?

Is it possible your carbs are out of sync or gave some crud in them?

Take a good look at those plugs, one more easy place to check.

Check your choke linkage. Make sure all 4 little plungers are sliding in and out when you work the choke. If this is not adjusted right the bike will spit, cough, misfire and sputter till warm.
Enjoy the ride. They are all good, just some better than others.

I had this with my old 84. I changed the plug wires, cleaned the carbs, sync carbs, changed the air-cut-off-vales all at one time. I am not sure which or all of these things fixed it but after that it ran like a dream. It could have been one of these things or a combo of all of them but after that it was as smooth as they get. And I think I changed the plugs also. Either way it was as soo smooth after that I kicked myself for not doing that a year or so before.
