GL1200A adding an FM booster and EQ

Postby beechum1 » Mon Aug 22, 2011 2:25 pm

Seems like adding these things would be easy and without affecting the system, but are there any caveats?

add the FM booster in the antenna line, and the EQ coming out of the AVC before the speakers? I don't know what i'm going to buy, I guess space depending, but I don't get good reception and the speakers sound like a tin can.

JC Whitney has a booster for your FM I had Serria Electronics M/C fixed my FM on the radio but it doesn't pick up real good I saw this booster for Fm it only cost less than 15 dollars this was JC Whitney.Radio Shack had about the same thing years ago but haven't seen them in years. The stock speakers are sick I don't know if the electrical system can handle to much power drain .I think the stock speakers are only 15 watts and any speaker above that you might fry the stock radio. What I would do is contact Serria Electronics M/C and ask them which way to go with everything what is it going to hurt. Take Care and God Bless.

the power from the speakers comes from the radio so using speakers rated higher than 15w won't burn out anything mine are either 35 or 50w on the 1200 wing

Ok he needs to get some higher wattage speakers but still that old a radio can only do so much,He could put a amp and run 200 watts and a subwoofer in the trunk. It can be done I have seen people just scrap the stock system and put one in the saddlebags and have a remote to it.I have the same set up the stock speakers stink but I don't listen to them all the time. You are not going to get a good sound going down the road at 60 miles per hour like you would get inclosed inside a car any how I wish you the best.

hmmm. ok. What about pulling the intercom board out and putting in a better radio and speakers, and wiring in the intercom appropriately. That would be my ideal setup, but I haven't looked at it that much yet....

Listen you can hook 5000 watts amp to your radio or what ever you can muster up.But the bottom line is this will the stator and the rectifier or just say in general can the electrical system stand that much drain and like when you come to a light and the subwoofer hits a bass note every thing goes dark or you lights looks like a strobe light out of the 70s or 80s disco while going down the road any how have fun .

Me too I'm afraid you are not going to be satisfied you are looking at 20 something tech it is what it is.But I have see and read that people just scrap the stock system and put a new radio with all the goodies in one of the saddle bags and use a remote to make it do the functions but.I don't the intercom you won't have any more you will have to get with someone that works on these things everyday like Seirra Electronics M/C i'm sure they can give you pointers.Take Care and Good luck.

So I guess http://wingstuff.com/pgroup_detail/2148_j_m_bmw_or_universal_cb_system_w_intercom_fits/ and replace the deck. I like the looks of this and it's function anyway. More than I wanted to spend, but it'll get the job done and with style.

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. It is what makes you happy and I am glad for you too we have at times to say and voice out opinion but what counts is the person that owns the bike is happy and hope we don't make people mad.I try to help people when in need and in this room I have met people help me too you came to a very good room and a great bunch of people just ask them.Take care and may God bless.
