86 GL1200 Aspy and Prelude fuel pump

Postby DavidT » Mon Sep 12, 2011 2:53 pm

My fuel pump began to die, so I searched the forum and found out about the Prelude pump. Ordered, installed, works great! Then, the leaking began. Only a week old, figured i had a bad pump, and Autozone replaced it under warranty. New one worked great for almost three months, same leaking, same place. It leaks at the seal close to the output nipple. That whole end is plastic. AZ guy said there was too much heat there. Good diagnosis, I think. Now: what can I wrap the front of the pump with to shield it from the heat. I don't want it looking any worse that is already does with that (much) bigger pump, but I have to try something. Any ideas?
Thanks,
David

I,m not familiar with the switch over from one to other, Do You have clearance to put spacers and longer mount bolts under the pump mount to raise it? If so it might take some heat away from it. Just a thought.

I had thought about that, but it has rubber vibration feet that already hold it higher, and the place it leaks is at about 2 o'clock position if you are looking at the input-output nipples.

Mine has been on for about 10 months and 6k miles, no leaks (wood knock here). I did use a spacer and the rubber gromets....hope you find it.
