After not even looking at my bike for a week or so, I went to check out the radio that I had worked on and found a puddle of oil on the floor. After investigating I find that the O ring on the front of the starter is leaking onto the exhaust.
Now I have taken the starter out before and really don't want to take it out again if I don't have to . Does anybody know if it can be unbolted and moved back (forward?) and a new O ring slid over the shaft and replace? That is without removing exhaust and shifter etc?
Any advise will help.

You could try. But unfortunately I think it will have to come all of the way out. On my 84 aspencade there just doesn't seem to be enough room to get the o ring off and then back on by just sliding it back. Sorry.
