New for Me

Postby donwestsr » Sun Dec 06, 2009 6:54 pm

I am purchasing a 1986 Goldwing Aspencade. It has 41000 miles on it but has been sitting for over a yr. I am a little skeptical but the bike looks really good for it's age. Owner became ill and could not ride. I am having the following done and I want to know what other problems I can expect?
New Tires
Carbs reworked
new brakes

Anything else I should anticipate?

Unless the PO can vouch for changing the timing belts, change them too.
replace brake fluid with DOT4.
Flush and replace coolant, I use Honda premix
When the brakes are being done apply never seize to the slide bolts, make sure the pistons are cleaned prior to pushing them back into the caliper other wise you might be doing a brake job again soon if the seals get damaged by dirt.

Thanks I will definitely get the timing belt looked at. I appreciate your input.
