Crank Bolt

Postby glnewbe » Sat Oct 29, 2011 4:02 pm

I am doing the "poorboy" conversion on my 84 Aspy. I am ready to remove the crank bolt to install the new pulley. When I take that bolt out aren't those two pulleys that the bolt goes through going to fall off and throw out the timing? If someone who has already done this could answer this question I would appreciate the help. Henry

I don't know what a "poor boy" conversion, but if you are going to pull the crank bolt on the front of the bike I think you need to remove the timing belts first. Look up the how-to thread on timing belt replacement. don't move the crank much while you are doing whatver.

The crank bolt holds the timming pully in place ,but it wont fall off because it is pressed onto the shaft and there is a keyway there to keep it aligned. Have no fear its not going to fall apart on you.

That's correct, the pulley is a nice tight fit on the woodruff key.
