Brake lights not working

Post by ohiobiker » Wed Nov 02, 2011 3:27 am

I have a 1984 Goldwing Interstate 1200, my brake lights are not working. I checked the bulbs and they seem to be ok. My tail lights does work. Where do I go from here?

If your horn also quit, check fuse #1.If the horn blows, then look for and listen to the brake light relay. It should click when applying the brakes. It's possible that both switches are bad too.Mine were. With that in mind,if the relay doesn't click(key on obviously) , you could unplug the switch and short the 2 wires together. One switch is at the pivot point underside of the brake handle, the foot switch is spring attached to the foot lever just in front of the frame.

Well to begin with..the brake relay that was mentioned on the previous email, wasn't the problem. I disconnected the rear brake light switch, which plugs in near the fuse box, and then the front brake started to work. So, the rear brake switch was bad. Bikebandit.com has it listed as discontinued. On Ebay I found numerous ones for around $10.00.
Thanks for everyone's help on this topic.
