GL1200 LTD white smoke

Postby downhomr » Mon Nov 07, 2011 1:47 pm

Hello everyone,
Hoping some of you can shed some light on my issue.
About a month ago, following a nice leisurely ride down the highway...got on the off-ramp and
noticed white smoke out the exhaust.
Figured it was a head gasket...got her to my mechanic who changed out the head gasket on right side...
had him do belts, thermostat, and hoses and crank sensor....etc.
Had to wait for a starter to get her going.
I haven't been able to ride since...because I'm getting white smoke again....just pulled the plugs
a little while ago...and all 4 are wet with coolant.
Not sure what to look at next.
She has 216,000 kms.
Any thoughts???

Assuming there's no coolant in your oil, the only other way for coolant to get onto your plugs is through a failed head gasket. Sorry for that bit of bad news.

Hm. I suppose if the crossover tubes were leaking, AND there was a vacuum leak in the carb-to-block seal, it could suck coolant in there...but you'd have more obvious problems than just white smoke and wet plugs.

You might talk to the mechanic about a "do-over".Question the gaskets used,eg..aftermarket,cheep,made in Taiwan Saber Cycle..or real OEM Honda parts, were the heads and block inspected and torque sequenced properly.

Sorry,I don't trust anybody any more.I got my fair share of poor, fast and uninformed service too many times.

I have a few Questions where did he get the head gasket? You said he did the right side is that correct and now all four plugs are wet with coolant ? The only thing at this time I can think of that uses coolant is the air valve pump it acts like a fast idle curcuit or automatic choke coolant from the engine helps with the engine warming up it could be bad.I would get your mechanic to check the air box where the air filter is it could be sucking coolant in through the intake this is a wild guess.
