1986 Aspencade speedo

Postby JustGeorge » Wed Jan 11, 2012 4:25 pm

Hi all. George here in the great white north. I have an opportunity to purchase this 86 Aspy for a very reasonable dollar but I am being told that the speedo and odometer are not working. No problem when all you need do is install a GPS. However, I am looking for info on what is required to repair it properly. Is this completely electronic or does it have some mechanical parts that may have failed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all,

George

Hmmmm.....Have a look at the front left fork at the axle..If there is a cable ,it's mechanical. If there is a wire harness,it's electronic.Even the electronic sending unit has some mechanical parts attached to the front wheel.
Mechanical and electronic parts can fail, although I've heard that many can be hand repaired.Others that are beyond repair can be replaced, used of course.Check other posts about repairs and E-Bay for replacements when you find out what you need.Keep us posted and take lots of pictures too.

Thank you virgilmobile.
As always, I forgot the rule for all things mechanical 'keep it simple, silly.' or, the 'kiss' theory for short.
I will check out that simple solution.
And, I will post photos if this deal should go thru.

You appear to have a nice looking array of bikes. I should like to view bigger photos.

Thank you,

George

Toys, toys, and more toys. They are addictive, aren't they?
So, besides the 79, the 80, and the 83 in the garage already, just today I have acquired an 86 aspy for $2600.00 Canuck bucks.
Not the one I was originally dealing on but another that came up with more goodies on it along with a new battery and new tires and a brand new tuneup and carb balance! Woohoo!!!
But, now I have to put tell my wife that her car is destined to park outside in the wonderful Canadian winter while these bikes stay indoors!
How well do you think this will go over for me?
Is there ever a season in your neck of the woods when you CAN'T ride?

Photos still coming .......

It's funny down here.I lived in New York and Colorado, the humidity is low so the cold doesn't seem so bad. When it gets to 62* with 85% humids,it feels just as cold. It's rideable, just not plesent. :(
Tonight it's going to 26* ..last weekend we had 74* both days .

As far as momma is concerned, you could try 2 things.....The big puppy eye routine or a new shed.
Either way your gonna pay dearly for it.

Yeah, I tried that. Her car is parked warm and safe in the garage, my truck is outside in the snow. That was the result of THAT.
