Trunk Relocation kit

Post by Lucky713 » Sat Jan 21, 2012 1:02 pm

I just purchased a Trunk relocation kit for my 86 gl1200sei. In reading a lot of the post that talk about installing the relocation kit, people note that if you have the rail around the trunk you have to install some spacers. I of course have the rail around the trunk, so the installation will be a little more of a challenge. My question is, does anyone have any recomendations on what to use for the spacers. There are 2 allen screws that connect the trunk rail to the bar that the antenna is attached to. I also can see that I will have to do some modifications where the front part of the rail attaches above the saddle bags. Not so worried about that. I would imagine that I will have to get longer allen screws, but what should I use for the spacers to run the screws through.

You can get collar spacers along this line, in various sizes and lengths:

Collar spacer
Collar spacer

But my preference is just a stack of washers - it's wider, and gives more stability. Just make sure the inner diameter of the washer fits the allen screw tightly, so there is no slop or wobble.
