Signal Light Flasher

Postby j.maclean » Mon Jan 23, 2012 12:53 pm

Hi folks! I have to replace my signal light flasher on my 84 GL1200. Can I use a standard automotive 3 prong flasher or does it have to be a Honda replacement? Is there any aftermarket flashers you recommend?

Thanks!
J

Any flasher will work, but I prefer putting electronic flashers in place, that don't rely on the heating of a bimetallic strip for their functioning. The only thing you have to watch with them is that they won't flash faster if a bulb burns out, so you need to check your bulbs periodically to make sure they're all working (but you do that already now, right?). :)

If you put the electronic flasher in now you can convert to LED bulbs later with no issues, which will free up some amps to use on other applications

Does the 1500 use the same flasher by any chance?

Here is a good article on changing over to auto flashers.

Enjoy the ride. They are all good, just some better than others.

oooops! I just realized this is the GL1200 forum, not the GL1100 forum.

The GL1100 flasher can be replaced with a standard automotive flasher. The GL1200 (and GL1500, which uses the same flasher) is different, and uses a different connector. You can not use a standard automotive flasher as a replacement.
