Gas leak
I have an 89 Goldwing 1500 that has developed a gas leak. When I park it, the gas seems to be coming out of the overflow tube attached to the spill pan at the gas tank. Any suggestions?

Re: Gas leak
You probably have a defective vacuum operated petcock. The valve just in front of the gas cap.

Re: Gas leak
I think Virgil had this problem, with a leaky automatic petcock diaphragm. Did that leak down to the spill tray, Virgil?

Re: Gas leak
A little.I smelled gas and shut it down.I found the weep hole in the bottom of the vacuum valve was dripping a bit of gas.The fuel side of the diaphragm had a pin hole in it.
At that time I couldn't find a kit,so I opted for a electric replacement valve.

Re: Gas leak
I saw that too but it lists the kit for the 91-95 year.
I wonder if they are the same for my 88 and his 89?

Re: Gas leak
I did a search for a 91 and an 88, and the petcock assembly in both is identical (16970-MN5-003).
In fact, I did another search - and it appears the same petcock is used in 1988 through 1998. It was changed to a 16970-MN5-013 for 1999 and 2000 only.

Re: Gas leak
Thanks for the info.I may just rebuild mine and remove the electric one.Or keep it as a spare.my list of things is getting smaller.I just modified her helmet so she can use earbuds for better audio.my suggestion of ear wax remover instead of the mod was shut down pretty quickly.
