GL1500 rough idle below 900 rpms,

I have a 1990 GL1500 with 50,000 km. It runs great at highway speeds till you try and idle then its rough and stalls below 900 rpm. When you approach a traffic light and pull in the clutch it will die. I didnt ride much last year, I dumped the gas added fresh, still the same problem. I was going to try the plugs next, anyone had something similar happen and have other ideas where to look next? Thanks for listening.....

This may sound odd,but I noticed that in 3,4,5 gear,my engine idles at 650 rpm.Now if I shift it to 2nd or 1st,the idle goes up to 800 rpm.
I assume that the ignition control module sees what gear I'm in and adjusts the ignition timing.
So,if it dies at a idle and your still shifting,get it into 2,or 1 before letting it idle down.
If this isn't the case,I'd be looking for vacuum leaks.Lots of posts on where to find them.
My 88 had one that took me 5 hours to replace the hose that was bad.Yuck.It was buried way under the carbs.
