cornerlights

Postby hotmop » Sun Apr 22, 2012 7:21 pm

I have a 2000, 1500A. I bought from Add On Accessories, an after market corner light kit. I installed relays and lights in the bikes original wire harness jacks. However, everything is working in reverse order. Both lights come on when they should normally be off. When I use the directional's, the right light comes on with the left directional and the left light comes on with the right directional. All voltages check out on relay contacts except for power to lights. Looking in Honda's shop manual, it appears that this relay is supposed to be normally closed when not powered. Has anyone installed one of these kits or experienced this problem? If so, how did you correct it?

Not me,I've got a 88.the system is the same, I think.the original system actually turn on the relay with the key.the relay uses the normally closed contacts to keep the light off.
When the cornering circuit is activated it actually turn off the relay.
With this in mind, you should be able to unhook the light from the normally open contact and move it to the normally closed one.

Thank you for the reply. Where did you get the relays? I ordered from the dealer and the relays they sent were open...

Most relays have both normally open and normally closed contacts. Have a look at the relays you were sent. If they do not, you can substitute standard automotive relays.

This is true.I used a ford relay.it was the same size and has 5 contacts.the original Honda relay had only 4.just a nc relay.I found mine at a junk yard while digging around for other parts.I thought that they might come in handy one day.I guess they are avaiable at Napa too.
