1998 Cornering Light Conversion???

Postby djlundwall » Wed Apr 25, 2012 6:39 pm

Please help :|

I have a 98 GL1500A with cornering lights that I would like to replace (with led's). The problem is, unlike a current posting in the "How-To Articles", the socket for a 98 is different from what is shown and demonstrated in the article (It was, however, a great article :D ). Does anyone have the same year bike that I have that has replaced the unusual lights with some other light bulb?

Many thanks in advance!

I've got a 88 and I converted mine to a regular park/brake lamp.It involved adding a wire and a new relay.Take a picture of the lamp housing and post it.Have you found the relays for them on the bike?

I went to Pep Boys and purchased a "close" match as far as the socket goes and drilled a pilot hole into the outside flange of the new socket as well as a pilot hole into the back of the metal reflector of the light housing. I put a couple of yellow LED 1156 type bulbs in it and wha-lah! I have light!!! IT is not as bright as the weird bulbs I pulled out, but the purpose was to use these lights as DRL's, plus the fact that the light color is yellow... a nice contrast to the othr lights I have facing forward. Maybe at a later time I will put some more powerful LED's, but for now, I am very pleased.

When I get the bike put back together I will take some photos and post them.

In the meantime, thank you for your quick response!!

Dan
