Right side coolant fan 1995 1500se

Postby faithtalker1 » Mon May 21, 2012 7:15 am

I just bought my wing last September and took it on a 1000 mile road trip this weekend, I noticed coming back that my fan (on the right when sitting on the bike is not working. Does each individual one have it's own fuse? And if this doesn't fix the problem where is the best place to get one. They don't look hard to change, but any info would be appreciated. Thanks. Had a blast this weekend other than a speeding ticket.

The fans are connected in parallel, both running off the same fuse, both running off the same switch, so if one runs, they should both be running. Disconnect the connector at the fan and apply 12v/ground across the two wires leading to the fan (doesn't matter which is which - if you get it backward, the fan will just run backward). If the fan doesn't run, then the problem is with the fan motor. If it does, then the problem is with the wiring leading to it.

So if the fan motor is bad, where would be the best place to locate one of these? It doesn't seem to be an issue with over heating; and like I said the left one does run. So as to the wiring it would be the wiring that is connecting the two fans to one another since the one works and the other doesn't assuming that the wiring runs to the left fan first and then jumps from that to the right side?

The fans are in parallel, which means that the current splits between the two (not in series from one side to the other). There looks to be lots of fans on eBay, for pretty low prices. Could be a loose connector though.

Thanks very much fellow GoldWingers, I appreciate all the advice and the help. So now I have one more question. I need one or two additional parts for my wing I Believe the color of the bike is possible burgundy, it is dark red/near black on red any way the parts I need are the back (left if you are sitting on the bike compartment by the passenger seat, Brown and a tear drop looking cover for the front right of the fairing; it covers one screw on the lower part of the fairing, they are even marked left and right underneath the cover.

Can you tell me if the right and left side cooling fan is identical or if indeed they are specified right and left hand, I seen two on ebay that were listed as cooling fan shroud, they show the fans in them I am just wondering if it is just the shroud and they are using a stock picture of the shroud over the fan motor, they are only asking $16.95 seemed awful cheap to me?
