Would a seat from a 1996 GL1500 fit my 1988 GL1500?

It should. I put one off a 94 on my 89. Do you need a seat?

Thanks Tmilam .....I am looking at a seat from a '96 ......mint condition, passenger and driver back rest, cloth top and back rest surface. $ 175 does not seem bad at all considering a new "OEM" seat alone is $350 and up.

Not bad. How many miles are on the seat? That does make some difference in the comfort.

I am getting ready to replace mine with a Road Sofa. The one I am going to sell is off of an SE. Has the Air Hawk system installed on drivers section. It has a Utopia Type back rest and the factory pull-out rain cover.

Is that the one that's on your bike in the photo? How much? And how would the Air Hawk system work with my '88?

The Air Hawk is between the factory cover and the seat foam. It has two buttons built into the left side of the seat. On to let air in and one to let air out. Check out www.airhawk.net.
It is on the bike, but what you see in the picture is a slip on cover I found about 8 years ago. I have pictures of the seat off the bike that I can e-mail.

I had an Air Hawk for years. Its the way to go. I've never seen one installed under the seat pad though. I looked at the link given and still don't see one. I JUST got an Air Rider seat for the SE and for the few miles I have on it, am quite satisfied. The one you described sounds like a good buy. These seats, of most any type, are not cheap.
