Speedo fluttering..97 1500SE

Postby RBGERSON » Sat Jun 02, 2012 6:20 am

New to me 1500. The speedo needle flutters about 1/4" at any speed. Still reads correct speed at the bottom end of the flutter. I am assuming my speedo gearing or cable is going out..any thing I can do to fix it or at least extend it's life..lube, tighten or check something.

I had the same issue until the speddo stopped working, then the crusie will not work (FYI)
I was able to remove the front wheel clean the speedo adaptorand I what i also did was to change the cable, but what i did was slide the new internal wire back in the old casing and it worked perfect. It is a job to get the cable out and get to the back of speddo (so I have read) I cleanded and and greased the cable and housing and all worked great. Good luck

I agree with the cable replacement and cleaning and regreasing of the adapter on the front wheel. This should solve the problem.

I'll give it a try..sliding new cable in old tube good idea..a lot less work..if the cleaning a lube doesn't work.

Did it..works great now. Removed the inner cable, cleaned it up, re-greased with silicon non-grease lube.

A little hard getting it out..but I kept turn it and working it back and forth finally loosen up and slid out.
