I am not sure about the 1500. I just fixed the radio station changer on my 1986 1200. It was the momentary switch located on the left handle bar. No matter how much I flipped the switch up and down it wouldn't change radio stations. I pulled the switch case apart after cutting it open with a dremel tool. The switch was covered in old grease and crud. Cleaned it up with electrical contact cleaner and found some nice clean contacts inside. Now the switch works like a charm and the radio changes stations like it should. The CB has the same kind of momentary switch for changing channels. I have a few photos if needed. A little ABS cement on a toothpick and the case went right back together. Hope this helps. Also on the bottom of my switch housing was a small drain hole. I had tried squirting contact cleaner inside. The switch just worked interment. Taking it apart was the trick.
Enjoy the ride. They are all good, just some better than others.
