radio not enough

Postby a20ozcoke » Mon May 04, 2009 7:29 pm

I have a 2000 goldwing se that I just bought. The only problem is I can't get the radio to play loud enough to hear going down the road. The mute is off. All speakers are good. what sound heard, sounds good just not loud.

I have a 91' Aspencade. The radio has a gain knob on it. I have found that moving this works. This will make the volume get louder when you are riding.
hope that helps. :D

I actually get to see my bike for the first time tomorrow! My brother test rode and checked it out for me since he lived close to where it was sold. We will look for the gain knob and see what happens. Thanks for the reply!

I'm sorry, also tell him to check the AVC knob. I am guessing your volume control knob is in the bad.

Well we tried all the control knobs and removed the radio and can't find the problem with any of the wires either.........Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. There is music comming from the speakers but it is VERY quiet to say the least. The CB isn't working either as it shows that the mike has been keyed as soon as you plug everything back into the radio. Things seem to be right with the CB as long as it isn't plugged into the radio.

ya'll just put this cb in correct? Start from scratch. something is crossed somewhere that or the cb caused it. pull the cb out and start again and see if the radio starts working. long shot but best way to trouble shoot it.

We put everything back the way we found it. The plugs only fit one way. We are waitinig for the wiring schematic to show up so we can trace things back to their roots.

Bypassed the mute button....no difference. The wiring on this bike has been tampered with and in a big way. The guy who had it before me put a lot of extra lights on it and then removed them before he sold it to me. Go figure. I also find that if I lock the forks that the lights on the saddle bags come on.....is this normal??

I misread your post.......the CB was already installed when I got the bike

No its not. Mine had some bad wiring like that. My fork light bars were wired half a__ed and my ring of fire had no ground which burn't 4 switches on top. I took down the panels and made me a new harness for them. Works great now!

I think the wiring will be the culprit once we get into it. This guy had no clue about wires or nuts and bolts either.....

Found a new revelation in the wiring fiasco......the rear passenger headset plug had been removed by the previous owner so he did the only logical thing to do with the empty connector......he plugged it into the passenger radio control (unused on this model) connector. DUUUUUUHHHHHH!! I would think that the fact that the 2 connectors were completely different colors might be a clue. Anyway, as soon as I unplugged the mismatched wires the CB now works perfectly and with plenty of volume. AHAHHHHH!! The radio still has the volume problem though. It plays nicely but not very loud at all. I added another pigtail to the rear intercom hookup and the intercom now works as well, but with the same problem...not enough volume. I feel that the wiring problems are now straightened out and am wondering if the intercom being plugged into the accessory jack backfed into the radio and blew the amplifier? I also wonder if the radio amplifier supplies the power for the CB as well? Anybody have a schematic for the radio?? I bought a CD but there is no schematic for the internal radio, just the wires comming out of it..

Try pushing the volume knob in on the CB to turn it off. If the CB is on the radio volume will be low

Thanks for the idea, but we finally found the problem, thanks to another forum brother who suggested that there was an open bridge on the PC board. He was right on and we quickly solved the problem by soldering a jumper wire over the open spot on the board. Everything works perfectly now!!

Not sure about the 1500,but, it is true on my 87. It's a safety feature for parking near roadways. If you turn the ignition to the right spot with the forks locked the tail lights will stay on...

Where is the bridge located inside the radio?,Do you have a schematic of the radio/
