1500 speedo pulse wire

Postby mervk » Wed Jul 11, 2012 2:40 am

Hi guys. New owner of 1991 SE 1500, and need to find a wire that gives pulses from the speedo. Now from everything I've read, it appears the 1500 has a speedo cable for the analogue speedo, different to the electronic digital speedo on both my 85 and 86 1200's. But the cruise control has to get pulses from some where, so there must be a wire somewhere.

Have searched for a wiring diagrem without luck. Can anyone help with a color and location to help me?

Cheers

Thanks for this info, it helps heaps. Can you tell me if it was from a 1992 or earlier model manual, or 1993 onwards? There was a change in the wiring harness, I understand. I was told to use the white/black wire on C33 as speedo input to cruise control, which may be right on 93 on model, but is the camshaft input to CC on the earlier loom. What years does your manual relate to?

Appreciate the assistance.

The only info avaiable to me was for the 88-89 and the 93.
Hopefully they are the same, but test first.

My 88 is cable driven spedo.if yours is also, look for the pulsing wire going into the CC module.the pulse should be conted from the mechanical spedo gauge.I haven't looked but it is probably a magnetic reed switch.one side ground and the other has a bias voltage provided by the cruise module or signal canceler unit.

Thanks for the help. Appears my 91 model has the 93 on wiring loom, as the Yel/red wire did the trick. Finished my project and all back together again. Thanks for taking the time and effort to post the illustrations - it is much appreciated.

Yes. Connecting this wire was the last step in my installing a set of "Retract-a-Trike" wheels from Trike Alternatives. Elsewhere in this forum I posted a project of home made training wheels on my 1200, and they worked so well, when I came accross a "brand new" 91 1500, I had to have it. And Retract-A-Trike was the answer for me to be able to ride it.

Though it hasn't stopped raining here over the last few days, and I have not as yet ridden the bike, I know they are going to be everything the manufacturer promised. Though it took some time, the installation was straight forward, and the quality appears first class. Operation of the unit whilst on the center stand is very smooth.

I now have my 85 1200 with my own wheel kit to ride, the 1500 with this kit, and my 86 1200 with it's side car. How lucky am I? Some people deride these wheel kits with comments like "when I can't hold the bike up, I'll quit riding". However if they ever reach the point where they struggle to ride such a wonderful bike because of it's weight, they will appreciate just how great these kits are.

Cheers
