Radio volume knob..weird

Postby RBGERSON » Sun Jul 15, 2012 8:22 pm

I have two 1500's one when I turn the radio volume knob on from about 8 o'clock it gives sound w/o much turning of the knob, the 1999. On my 1997 I get no sound out of the speakers until I get the the knob to the 12 o'clock position, it is loud enough to hear just fine and it works with the AVC knob..gets louder as speed increase..just no volume for the first quarter turn of the knob. Any ideas?

Both have to click on/off at about 8 o'clock and stop turn at about 6 o'clock.

Sounds like the mute button is in on the 97, left hand control.

Does the quiet radio keep its memory presets when the ignition is turned off? I'm suspecting not.

There is a 5 amp fuse in the relay box, to the rear of the main fuse box. It is live at all times (whether or not ignition is on) and powers the amplifier, tape deck and memory functions of the radio. If this fuse is blown, the radio will be very quiet, and the memory presets in the radio will be lost if the ignition is turned off.

Nope, mute button not engaged..but I did notice that the off point on the 97 is at 10 rather than 8 and on the 99 it's at 8..but still the 99 gets louder faster as I turn the dial???
