1988 honda alternator connections

Postby randall.armijo » Mon Aug 06, 2012 4:38 pm

Just got a goldwing 1988, but it needed an alternator, got one but where does the main wire? from the battery bolt to on the alternator. the other connections where fairly obvious and AI thought I found where the wire went but the rubber cover does not go over it completely because it hits a capacitor? Any pictures of an installed alternator is what would be perfect.

Now remember when reinstalling the alternator make sure there are no little kids around as it is possible they may learn new words.

Sometimes the alternator will slide in perfect, but many a time it won't and will test your patience. Can I suggest or even recommend that after you have spent about 30 minutes trying to fit the blessed thing it and skinned your knuckles etc., that you have a cup of coffee or in my case a cup of tea mutter to yourself as to whether the person who designed the alternator, his parents were ever married etc.

Then return to the bike all nice and refreshed, and lo and behold it will slip into place just like it was made for it.

I think you will find that just about everyone who has removed the alternator from a 1500 has shal we say a ticklish problem in getting alternator back in again.
