sheepskin seat covers

Postby gunner54727 » Thu Aug 23, 2012 10:35 am

I have been looking around for some seat covers for my 99 1500SE, but so far I haven't found anything under $300 in sheepskin. The co-pilot insists on real sheepskin. Anyone know of a decent quality yet inexpensive product anywhere?

I plan on buying one from this ebay site, just need to put money in bank for paypal . Lots of colors and they are the real thing. Fur 2" - 2.5", $94.95 shipped in USA.

I have been looking on EBay for some time and never ran across these. Thanks much. Definitely worth the look.

Good evening Gunner.

If you are looking for sheep skin seat covers can I recommend these. You can see that I come from New Zealand where sheep outnumber people by 10 to 1.

As you can see by the pictures we are able to breed sheep in many different colors.

Red if you have red wing.

Also other different colors to match your bike.

This unfortunately is a flock where some rams of mixed colors got in and did the deed, so as a result we were unable to have a solid color of sheep skin.

I hope this helps in choosing the color you want.

I have bought two sheepskins in my life, both were from New Zealand. One was for my son's crib when he was a baby (it was amazing for him to sleep on, comfy and soft, keeps babies warm in winter, cool in summer), the other was a rug for my wife last Christmas.

The cheapest way to buy them is to pick them up while you're visiting New Zealand, as a friend of mine did. If you aren't planning to be near that part of the world anytime soon, I did a fair bit of research before buying the rug, and found that (for me), the best balance of price and quality was at http://sheepskinexpress.com. They might have a deal where you could buy a very small piece that you could use on your seat.

Let me have a look around the sheep skin shops here and see what I can find. What colour are you after?

Called my daughter in Charlotte, NC; only 10 minutes from Ikea and ask her to check their sheepskins. They only had white so I went back to ebay for another look. Thirty seconds left on one so I thought what the heck, got one for $20.

Coincidentally there was an article in the last WingWorld about sheepskin covers. Person that submitted that is in the business. Article was very informative. They sell sheepskin for just about everything. Check it out:

My daughter came to visit this weekend and brought a $10 sheekskin from Ikea, 24" x 40". Said they were out of the real hides. The faux has a woven back, feels as soft a real but slides around on seat.

Just an update. The $10 sheepskin from Ikea was softer to ride on and butt does not feel as hot, but it is easy to shed. The short hair sheepskin hide is great and does not slide when just drapped over seat and I don't slide around like on the faux.

For the REAL deal I found an inexpensive outlet. Hide House in California is a great place to buy hides. I found some of generous size to fit the entire lower seat for $65. Looks like they get my business.

Take care buying a sheepskin that is cheap and has been dyed. You ride through a little rain and you will be he same color as the seat. Don't ask how I picked up this particular gem.

In our area, we use Egli's Sheep Farm for sheepskin products, and they have a multitude of products. Not necessarily the most inexpensive of places, but their quality is second to none. You can find them online at:

www.eglifarm.com

They have a 35 page catalog of their product lines. Hats, mitts, boots, motorcycle seat covers, wheelchair seat covers, vests coats, mattress covers, wool socks and long underwear - lots of stuff.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey
