gl 1500 cranking by itself !!!Help

Postby chalfast » Thu Sep 13, 2012 11:48 am

My 94 GL1500 has cranked by itself twice lately, without starter button pushed , and i got it to stop by moveing the reverse lever . Could it be a bad switch on reverse lever as i know there are two start solinoids . Any help would be greatly appreciated

You may want to replace the 'A' relay the one alongside the battery.

I had a look at the schematic, and there are only two things that can cause this:

- "A" relay (next to battery) is stuck on by itself

- Starter button stuck on

It's fairly easy to figure out which one it is. If the starter button is stuck on, chances are that the headlight will be off (as the starter button interrupts the headlight circuit when pressed). If the bike is cranking itself and the headlight is still on, then most likely your "A" relay has failed and needs to be replaced.

Thanks
I replaced "B" relay last spring ,hard start and cranked too long . just had another issue of hard start ,"crank good not fire" checked things out found ground cable on batt was snug but not real tight ,retightened it and started right up ,also fixed issue of charge light on at idle with brake light on .. Thanks again hope loose cable issue helps someone else
