fuel shutoff valve for the gl1500

Postby virgilmobile » Wed Sep 26, 2012 9:36 am

Mine leaked.....I replaced it with a electric one...

While looking around the local 'pull-a-part' yard...I found this.....

It was on a 1998 Volvo S70....It's used to control gas vapors in the evap system.
I got it for $5 used.It appears to seal off well and is 12 volt operated.
I'm thinking it should also be able to handle fuel.
Anybody have any input ????
This may be a suitable replacement for the euro fans as the other electric one may be hard to find in the UK or such places and Bosch may be more easily available.

Not being a mechanic so to speak and certainly NOT on anything fairly new, my view would be no it would not hold back liquid as its for the vapor. Big difference. Thats my two pennies. I'm sure someone will chime in here to make a certainty of it one way or another. Good luck.

I wondered about that too....I thought if the valve held against gas vapor it should hold against liquid gas as well.
I'm concerned about the gas in constant contact with the seal inside, some deterioration maybe.???
Maybe I could bench load it with pressurized fuel and let it set a week to see if it holds up.

That might be the key right there. Pressurized vapor would not be as much of a force as a liquid might be. Give it a try. You already have the part and its not like it cost you an arm and a leg.

This is just a test.
I'm always looking for alternative parts.
Especially for the guys in Europe that may not have acess to the same stuff as we do here
