1998 GL1500A Starting Problem

Postby Emmette » Thu Nov 08, 2012 9:07 pm

This is an add-on to a previous post regarding ECU fuel circuit problems. Got another ECU and fuel pump, installed them using relays as recommended and tried to start it up.
NADA !! Nothing!! Checked that bike was in neutral, sidestand was down, reverse was not engaged and still nothing. Pulled side cover off the battery box and checked relay 1 or A
(don't remember what Honda calls each) and nothing there. Checked for voltage to energize the relay when start switch depressed and found nothing to energize it. Now in the
process of going through the manual along with all the diagrams to try to find the newest problem. Please tell me that no-one else has these electrical problems with their Wing......
Any suggestions? I would sure welcome any help......

I compiled the pictures of the start system....Your neutral light is on so the green dots indicate a working circuit.
The red dots indicate voltage flow for cranking and the purple is battery main to the starter.
Let us know what happens.
Be aware of the 5 amp fuse too....if blown,it will kill the relay volts.

The image came through pretty blurry. Could you e-mail this to me? Thanks....

Just finished (almost... still have to put all the fairings, etc back on) with this problem and found I had an intermittent relay problem along with corrosion on a connector.
Will be glad to add more info if someone is having some of the same problems.
Thanks to virgilmobile for all his help. Sure pointed me in the right direction along the way.
