Fork Rebuilding

Post by pudgyhd » Fri Nov 09, 2012 2:07 pm

Well I am seeing oil coming out of my fork seals so I guess I need them rebuilt. Called my shop and they want $250 to do it. Parts look fairly cheap but not sure how hard it is to do. What parts should I get to change these out and is there any step by step instructions out there? Help is appreciated!

I've just done mine not a problem. I used the 1500 GL manual downloaded off this website. Hardest part was compressing the springs to get the fork caps back on. I used a press but if you've got strong arms I've read you can do without. Be careful how you remove the fork caps, hold the cap tight or it might be launched across the workshop, or in to your face! I used a piece of pipe and an old car wheel bearing as a slide hammer to fit the seal itself.
Good luck,
