snaps for left hand pocket

Postby wiredgeorge » Wed Nov 28, 2012 9:12 am

The pocket that goes over the left hand glove box is missing. It appears to snap on. It is probably missing as the snaps that hold it are pretty much all broken off. Is there a way to replace thos snaps on the bike so I can use another pocket?

Remove the pocket from the bike. Remove the snaps. Go to Walmart and buy some replacement snaps.

If you don't feel like doing the replacement by yourself, remove the pocket (4 philips screws on the pocket, and one in the headlight adjust knob) and take it to a leather shop.
Keep the rubber side down.

You don't need to remove the headlight adjuster knob or screw. After removing the 4 screws from the pocket just lift the rear of the pocket and tip it forward. It will come right out.

I had a different problem, some of the snaps were missing from my leather flap, I didnt like it anyway , so I ordered a setup with pockets from cyclemax, looks good and to me more functional than the stocker....good luck

A near neighbour of mine has that hard cover for his left hand pocket on a 2000 GL1500 and it works well for him. I am thinking of replacing mine at some point.
Are we having fun yet?

I like the idea of that cover, but it's not hinged like the GL1800's - so you can't really open it while riding. I like that while on the highway, I can reach over, undo a few snaps, take my sunglasses off and stick them in there, without needing to pull over.

We did a 600 mile ride this weekend (Fri afternoon and Sat) and I think a pouch deal would be better than trying to put a hard cover over the pocket. I wear glasses to drive and when it starts to get dark, it would be nice to have a place to keep my glasses to swap for my sun glasses rather than pull over and get into the trunk.

I have one of these on top of my Right compartment, http://cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/23379

But the one I use for my sunglasses is this one that goes on my Fuel Door, Very easy to open when riding to change glasses or get a piece of gum etc. I love it!
(this one says it's for an 1800 but I think it will fit any?)
