GL1500 Goldwinghids kit - low/high beams are flipped?

Postby redwing5 » Sun Dec 09, 2012 2:50 pm

Upon installing, there is only 1 way to fit bulbs into housing (1 large tab, 2 small & white strip is along topside of HID bulb). My problem is that with handlebar switch on "low beam" my lights are pointing up, and with switch on "high beam" (blue light indicator on dash is on) my lights are pointing down toward ground. Consequently, I am currently always riding with my switch in the "high beam" position, so that I am not constantly getting flashed by oncoming traffic. Help !! Am I the only person with this issue? Please & Thankyou

Explain your situation to the supplier of the HID lights, and see what they have to say. Perhaps they sent the wrong one for your GW (heaven forbid they sent you a HD set ;) ), so it should be checked first with the supplier. Let's know what the outcome is and we (the royal we) collectively should be able to find a solution.

I have the GL1500 GoldwingHids kit in my bike, and they definitely fit in there correctly, so that the high/low beam worked properly. Were the baseplate cutouts wrong, so it would only go in upside down?

Got the following response from manufacturer:

Thanks for your email. Sounds like the bulb may be upside down. The ring placement sounds correct with the large tab on top, however, I have included a picture to show how the bulb should fit. The bulb can be removed from the ring carefully and taken out to turn the bulb in the correct position. I have included a picture of the bulb, see attached.

So based on their pictures, are your bulbs in upside down? :?:

I looked at the instructions and found this:
Instructions
Instructions

If the bulb is in fact in right side up, and you need to reverse the high-low beam wires in the connector, you want to swap the white and blue wires:
Bulb connector
Bulb connector

To release the tabs, push a small flat blade screwdriver in the slot, and then push the tab out the back:

Then swap the tabs and push them into place in their new position.

Thanks Gary for checking in... I got to get in a few more rides, so though I expect their solution will work, I will get to dismantling within the next couple of weeks...

man -o- man can the internet deliver... I sincerely appreciate the add'l post on 2 alternate solutions (w/pics) - Wingadmin...
-- option B appears to coincide with the manufacturer's suggested repair, and I can see how both options should do the trick...

I'll be sure to post upon my HID repair !! but 1st I ride until it get's a bit more winter-ry :-)

I am having this issue too; unbeknownst to me I even made a joke about it in another post on a different section. Can you post those pix that the manufacturer inluded, or tell me which way the white strip is supposed to be (up or down). Without a visual reference, saying my bulbs are upside down isn't helping. I suspect that only one bulb is reversed, so switching wiring isn't the answer for me. Thank you. Totally worth the trouble too, these things light up the road.
