Free Service Manual Downloads

Postby Howard Halasz » Sun Jan 06, 2013 7:45 pm

In the past, I could go to goldwingdocs.com and get a free Gold Wing Service Manual PDF File. Today, I tried to download a free 1988 Gold Wing Service Manual, but got nothing but a bunch of useless toolbars and useless Internet links that directed me to places to buy the service manual. If anyone knows the deep dark secret to get the free Service Manual like I did in the past, Please let me know.

Out of the three that you sent, only one, http://www.goldwingworld.com/pages/Downloads.htm, offered a totally free download without having to pay a membership fee. I successly downloaded the GL1500 Service Manual that I needed.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Howard the reason you cant get all the manuals is Mother Honda told WingAdmin of this site they would take legal action for copy rights and he had to remove most of them. Mother Honda can be a PIA! they dont want any body to have the old manuals as we could keep all our old bikes running forever.------------------------------------------Hal

Hal, I think you got the reasoning wrong. Without going into copyright laws, I think the simple reason is Honda has a deal with HelmInc to reproduce and sell Honda owners manual, service manuals, parts manuals and so forth. Thus if Honda allows this website or any other site or person to copy them and give them away they are just hurting their own pocketbook. I suspect if Honda were notified of the site where you did locate a free copy they would take action to stop it.

Me thinks this too being the American Honda website links to ripoff Helm Inc. for all manuals. But...
Honda of Australia has free copies of the owners manuals on it's site...

I just browsed through all my bookmarks for Honda service manuals and noticed something. All the links I have for manual downloads from US based websites are dead except for a couple that aren't published. The links for foreign based downloads are all still alive and well. I even found a few new places with Google. I have no clue how internet law works but it looks to me like bs Helm has the deal for the US only and it's them enforcing it, not Mother Honda.

I can tell you without question that it is Honda asserting their copyright (and issuing the takedown notices), and not Helm. Helm does not own the copyrights to the manuals, and as such cannot legally issue takedown notices. They are simply contracted to reproduce and fulfill them for Honda.

Gotcha. Still looks to me like Helm has the license for North America only since international Honda offers owners manuals for free. Might be that Helm is the one reporting to Honda the manuals hosted in their distribution area? Ya know, so people have to go through them? $$$
How about this one, Boss...
In the manuals section, link to official international Honda sites for owners manual downloads instead of Helm. How would that go over here in the U.S.?

Ironic that the link given out here today, still has the goldwingdocs name plastered all over it.

I have an enjoy a PDF copy of all my service manuals.

But, I have also gone out and purchased (new and used) paper copies of the same ones. Something to say for being on the road and not needing power to look over how to fix you bike/car. But also something to say about having a ready access to a PDF copy on my tablet when I'm also away from home.

I too have the manual in pdf on my phone in case I need it on the road.
I also have it on my PC at home as it's easier to hit Ctl+F to search for something than flip through the pages.

I never said that I didn't download one already in pdf format. :D
I just believe that stuff that isn't intended to be free should be available.
To me that goes for software, movies, music, books & manuals.
I go on sites that have these, but only download either items that I already have or plan on getting.
Guess I don't want to cheat anyone out of anything.
