replaced my alternator

Postby lappir » Wed Jan 09, 2013 6:22 pm

I took my alternator off a few weeks ago and finally put it back on yesterday. I took it to an alternator rebuild place but it had a break in the windings and a replacement is not available. Had the option of getting a replacement Hitachi 40 amp or a Chinese built 90 amp. The 90 amp was less expensive, so I went with that one. There is a resistor/condenser or something attached to where the white wire was removed from the old alternator. On the OE, one of the case bolts lined up with it and the other end was secured there. On the new one, there is nothing to secure the other end. Has anyone else run into this.

Thanks,

Rod

Are you talking about this one? That's an audio filter for your CB and stereo.

I just swapped mine with a similar 90 amp alternator and it had the filter already built in. Ask the seller if the new alternator has it built in.

Called the seller of the alternator. The response. "try it without, if it's noisy then put it back on". Just started with out and the FM radio sounded fine with no change when engine speed increased. Will keep the filter just in case. Thanks again for the help.

That sounds like it already has it built in. Congrats, Rod!
