Postby WvChamp » Fri Jan 11, 2013 6:56 pm

Found this broken "Vacuum Solenoid" ? while pulling carbs to get to the dreaded leaking vacuum hose under the rubber insulating mat.
I'm looking for it's proper name, where to buy one and what it opperates please.
They are located on the right side fairing about carb heighth.

I think it's the air shot solenoid.
I see that the nipple is sheared off.It would be easier to put it back on.
I'm sure there's a glue for that.
It's made by Locktite and is specifically for plastics.
NOT JB WELD.No off brand stuff either. No 5 minute stuff.
2 part mix, stinks horrible but is amazing stuff.Let it cure overnight.

Almost forgot...If memory serves me,it opens air passages to the carbs at specific RPM'S under the control of the CCM.( carb control module)

Thanks for your reply VM.
Was told on another site http://www.goldwingfacts.com
That is one of the air jet solenoids, they control the fuel mixture.
PN# 36197-MN5-003
For $99...I do believe I'll try the "Epoxy" or something simular.
I've used Gorilla Super Glue before with amazing results.
Thanks again,
WvChamp

Yea....air something or another...I've slept sense I looked at the service manual.. :D
Be considerate of the fact that it's broken in a high stressed point. You really need the right epoxy. I really really really suggest the right stuff and try it on something similar first for strength. You don't want to make a $99 mistake over $6 tube of glue.

After gluing sets up you might want to re-enforce the joint with Bondo or something similar..slowly build up aroudn the now glued break. I have good luck with the sunlight setting Bondo..15 minutes between layers put out in the sun, new layer when it's still a little sticky works well.

HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,
RB
