1989 goldwing alarm?????

Postby txgambler » Mon Feb 11, 2013 9:24 pm

Am I paranoid, :ugeek: it's a 89 should I put an alarm on my bike? :?: Anyone have any suggestions, I have air horns and want them to go off if the bike is messed with. I dont want to spend 300 or 400 dollars, there has to be a simple system.

Thanks in Advance

you can..put a hidden switch in the ignition circuit so jumping the ignition won't start the bike..or a switch on the kick stand that goes off when it's raised..if not switch off first..or a mercury switch like in old thermostats that is set to go off if the bike is raised stand up..all things you can do yourself.

Or...you could do nothing. :) I have never heard of a Goldwing being stolen, ever. They're too heavy for a couple guys to wheel up into a van or a truck. I suppose you could have people messing with the dials, gadgets and doodads on the bike, but you'd really need a proximity sensor to prevent that.

There was a report in the UK recently of two Polish men manhandling a 1500 Goldwing in to a van, and stealing it- as someone remarked, would not want to meet up with them on a dark night.
Are we having fun yet?

I don't see it worth the bother really......most issues seem to be with the HDs and crotch rockets.....the wing isn't really part of the target crowd...
All I did was put a fake flashing led light alarm on the dash (with switch for times don't want it flashing).

About $2.00 off of ebay.

My Harley buddies all have alarms, but none of the Goldwings have them.
The reasoning is that if you go to prison for stealing a Goldwing, you are going to be someone's bitch.

That has brought vivid pictures to my thoughts. Say after me, "I will never take someone's Wing!"

I have one on my '99 that I purchased from J.C. Whitney. Any auto alarm will work. You will have to install a relay for the air horns to be used. As for "nobody messing with a Goldwing"... That's B.S. Some jerk stole the right side cover from mine while I was parked in a Walmart lot. It cost me $250.00 to replace it! And it only fits on a Goldwing. What does that tell you?
