mine is a 88.They would come on with the turn signal and only the side which the signal is flashing.
I have sense changed that by replacing the inoperative relays and added a wire to have them light up the "park lamp "portion of the bulb.Yours may only have a halogen single filament lamp.I would not suggest leaving it on all the time.If you want a bright light there,I suggest a LED conversion. The Admin did a "how to" for that.

Are we talking about the same lights?? the ones up right next to the headlights not the ones down low by the engine guards..those on my 97 only come on when the turn signals are activated

I have an '88 model and they are ON any time the the key is on. I replaced the filament bulbs with LED'S using instructions written by Wingman in the DIY section. Here is the link to the write-up viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9443

My bad....The marker lights next to the headlight on my 88 are on with the key.I rewired the lower ones to be on the same way....another marker light only turning bright with the turn signal...
Sorry,I was a bit distracted when I read your post......

Not right of the top of my head.
I had a total of 4 of those little marker lamps out around my bike.
I pulled one and matched it at the auto store and replaced them.
The trunk marker lamps were getting dim too so I ended up just sticking all new lamps in all the markers.

I am considering going to HID so I guess I'll wait until I make decision to pull the bulbs, pulling all of the front chrome etc. off seems like a big deal..for changing marker lights alone...

Yes it is time consuming.....Consider replacing the marker lamps with LED lamps while your there.
They seem to be a bit brighter and better color than a light bulb.
The Admin converted many of his lights to LED and has HID headlamps also.

Do the LEDs fit in the same socket as the standard bulbs..or is there more to the change over process.. Got a good link that explains the whole process??? I should look in the How to section..right... 8-) 8-)

OK I looked found it... :D

Mine were ok when I changed them to LED's, took about than 20 mins with someone to hold the screen and bits. Expected it to be more fiddly than it was, now I can whip off all the the front lights in no time.

If at first you don't succeed, hide the evidence.
