Need help with timing belt crank mark

Postby amsoilguy » Mon Mar 18, 2013 9:08 pm

The crank mark on my '88 is slightly different than WingAdmin's in relation to the trigger wheel tooth. In his pic in the how to section his mark also lines up with the trigger wheel tooth and mine is a little off. Is this just a difference between bikes? I have the pully mark lined up with the case mark. As far as I know, this is the stock trigger wheel.

It's possible you have an aftermarket trigger wheel installed that alters it slightly. Or...it's also possible that you have a stock OEM trigger wheel, and *I* have an aftermarket trigger wheel installed by a previous owner! :) However, I'm pretty sure that my trigger wheel is stock, as it matches others that I have seen.

However, you shouldn't be looking at the trigger wheel teeth for alignment, you should be looking at the marks on the pulley. There's one on the top surface, shown here between the T and F:

There's also one on the inner side of the pulley, not visible in the picture above, that is right next to the arrow cast on the block. It's hidden from view by the trigger wheel spoke in the picture above.

I do have the pulley mark lined up with the block arrow so it must just be a difference in trigger wheels.

Thanks!
