Timing belts

Post by rainman1956 » Sun Mar 24, 2013 6:24 pm

I have a 1998 GL1500, I don't know if the timing belts have ever been replaced. The shop-service DVD that came with the bike, shows how to replace them, but gives no indication as to type or interval of replacement. I'm under the impression that this is an iteference engine, IE the belts break, engine is junk.... I have 94,000 miles on my bike... Do i replace them, or not... Bike is and has been running GREAT...

Short answer...replace them...you are over the suggested interval...and when you do change them..no doubt you will say the original belts look fine! Mine looked good..but were replaced...have replaced 3 times so far...and I currently have 194,000 + miles. Yes it is an interference engine and you don't want a junk engine!

No doubt you will hear other say...CHANGE THEM!

I just replaced a couple of days ago. The belts did not to bad but they were stretched. I had 97000 miles.

First thing I did when I bought my Wing, before I even started the engine was change the belts. Gates belts are only £11 each. £22 pounds for peace of mind, cheap at the price.

Change them out at your earliest convenience!!

You need the Gates T275 timing belts for replacement.
Amazon has about the best deal going, with free shipping. :!: Ignore their 'Fitment Guide'!! These are the ones you want!
