Vin # location(s)

Postby par4ugolf » Wed Apr 03, 2013 3:17 am

I have a 1999 Goldwing and the Vin# on the frame just below the HAndlebars is either missing or very hard to read. Is there any other location to find the vin#?

Looking at the Clymer manual I have it says it is on the frame in one location only. In the UK we have a log book which shows the Vin number on it- is that the same for you?
Are we having fun yet?

That's the only place I know of that it exists. It's on a sticker, on the right side of the frame, just behind the steering stem shaft.

Ok thanks guys for your input. Does anyone have any idea how to correct the problem? I am hoping that it is just very dirty and can't be read, that happened once before or maybe because of the length of the sticker they can't read the whole thing, that also happened once before. I think I may be looking at a major problem when I get my inspection sticker. Hope the Title will work I guess

The Haynes manual (at page 0-6) states that the VIN is stamped on the steering head, AND printed on a label affixed to the frame. It sounds like you are talking about the decal being dirty, and if so, go to the steering head and see if you can read the imprinted number stamped on the frame. Some ordinary chalk may help to fill in the numbers to assist in reading it, after you have given it a clean. HTH

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.

Ok thanks will give that a try. I suspect that you are correct as it did happen once before and I did get tit cleaned up eventually.

I have a 88', and was surprise when while sitting on the seat, looking at the base of the handlebars on the right side horizontal section of frame viewable in that "well" that is there, that is where the VIN plate is. NOT on the steering stem like on other bikes, viewable from the ground looking up.
