LCD Unit

Postby SA Goldie » Fri Apr 05, 2013 1:25 am

Has anyone got an electronic schematic for the lcd unit or any suggestions on testing this unit ? The unit is totally dead, yet i have the 12v and 5v on the voltage regulator on the electronic board

There is an electrical troubleshooting manual (ETM) under "manuals" on this site for 1993 which you can download- it should help trace the electrical connectors to the LCD.
Are we having fun yet?

I'll look but as I recall there is no schematic of the electronics, just the feed wires.
I think it should have steady 12 volts, switched 12 volts and ground to light it up.
The clock circuit (I think) is contained on the PCB..The radio indicators receive data from the display output lines on the radio and are processed by a IC on the display PCB.

Concentrate your efforts on the clock...It should run just by itself with just the 2@ 12 volt lines and ground.
The only LCD Wing assembly(1983 gl1100) I've bench tested so far, yielded most of the electrolytic caps bad, lending to power supply spikes that destroyed the microprocessor IC.

The IC is no longer available for that vintage of bike but your's may be repairable...I'd have to get more info.
Take some pictures and note the part numbers of the large IC's and post them..I'll see what I can find.

Thanks for your help Virgil. I think the ic/transistor that powers the board, is gone blank. I do have 12v and 5v on the voltage regulator on the board, but the lcd doesnt even light up !

Is the 5 volts coming into the pcb ?
Is there both steady and switched volts.
There is 5 volts from another part that feeds the LCD.
Is there a picture of the LCD pcb I can see?
Any part numbers of the chips?
