How to check voltage

Postby tyrevere » Tue Apr 09, 2013 12:48 am

I recently replaced my battery with a non serviceable style. I road around for several hours today and it ran awesome. Started it tonight and the front headlamps wouldn't turn on.. Is this normal? Do I need to check the alternator or something? If so how do I check to make sure my Goldwing is actually charging the battery and not draining it?

It's more likely a dirty start switch. Give the starter button a little wiggle and see if the headlights come on.

When the engine is running, put a voltmeter across the battery terminals. You should see > 13 volts if the battery is charging.
