INTERMITENT LOSS OF POWER

Postby WINGER93 » Sun Apr 21, 2013 8:42 pm

My 1993 GL 1500 Interstate randomly looses power while going down the road sounds like it is starving for fuel. I was told to change the fuel pump, which I did. However, I am stilling have the same probem. After a few minutes of this condition the bike will run fine and then radomly do it again. Could be a mile down the road or 30 miles. HELP

I had a problem like that with my 96 found that the gas cap was plugged up causing a vacuum and starving the motor. If you have not tried this if you are ridding and it starts to cut out loosen the gas cap and see if it fixes the problem just my 2 cents-------------------------------------------Hal

Could quite possible be the bank angle sensor. There was a recall on these years a while ago. Your symptoms fit the description quite well. See other posts regarding the bank angle sensor.

Or maybe a clogged fuel filter. It could let fuel through at an idle or stop and go driving but not really pass enough at higher RPM's. Then when you stop it has a chance to catch up to the demand.

My 92 1500 began to experience that problem and it turned out to be what Fiberthree said. Clogged fuel filter. It would let enough fuel through to run about 20 miles at highway speed then cut out and slow to around 20 and that was all you could go until you stopped for a few minutes to let the carbs fill back up then another 20 miles and do it again. Did you change the fuel filter? It is located inside the fuel door on the throttle side of the bike.
