1988 GL1500 Alternator Capcitor

Postby rrswens » Tue May 07, 2013 4:28 pm

I am in the process of replacing my Alternator... When I took the old one out I broke the Capacitor that is attached to the outside of the alternator. I have searched the forum and cannot find a part number for it. I called the Honda dealer and they were unable to locate the part as well over the phone. What I am looking for is a Silver canister type part. It connects via screw and nut to the outside of the alternator and has one end that looked like a red ceramic part with a wire lead that connected to the hot side.
Any ideas on where I can obtain this or what the part number is. Im not sure if this was added as an after market item when the CB was installed or not.

Thanks in Advance for your time.

I know my 88 has one too. It's used as a noise filter and without it you might get some alternator whine. A good auto parts store should be able to get you one that will work. It's not indigenous to the Wing.
Just ask for a noise filter capacitor for a alternator.
In the mean time I'll look for a suitable part number.

As stated it's just a noise suppressor, any automotive shop should be able to sell you one, the tricky part will be finding one that fits in the space on your bike, if you don't have it you might hear a slight whine (that varies in frequency with the engine speed) on the radio when the engine is running..
