GL1500 thrust washer

I'm trying to learn more about the GW, as I already am familar with the Valkyrie I used to have.

On the Valk, there is a thin plastic thrust washer on the rear flange to drive, inside the splines.

But on my 88' GW there is not. Neither in the parts for the 91', which is the year model of the extra rear rim/tire I bought to replace the warn rubber on the 88' rim. Yes, the 5 and 6 spoke flanges have the same splines, and will mate up with the rear drive. But the 88' dust cover wont fit the 91' rim. I bought the 91' dust cover, and all I need to do is pull the rear wheel again, and add the dust cover and see if it works.

My question is with regards to the thrust washer. It's not there, but is there any worth (or even room) to add this part to the earlier GL1500, or only on the later years (96' +/-) GW, when it shows in the parts fische?
