Installing fader

Postby noeleo » Tue May 14, 2013 8:34 pm

So, on my '89, I want to install a fader. I would like to find one like I have seen that is mounted on the ignition cover. Just don't know which model had it there. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Mine came with the fader control mounted on the ignition cover when I bought it, but it was not connected up- so with the help of various people on this forum and also a UK based forum, I managed to get it connected up. Locating the connector block at the front left of the bike was tricky, the fairing surrounding the CB controller had to be partly removed to find the connector and connect it up. The rear connector for the rear speakers is under the seat near the trunk. Mine is an '88 California model.

That is exactly what I am looking for. I just need to know where to buy the ignition cover with the fader mounted. I do not want to install a Cyclemax kit and just drill a hole.

I had one on my 89, but not this 88 that I am riding. I went "ebay shopping" and found one, happen to be from a rider on this forum, what luck. Gotta admit, it is a lot easier to handle than the "drill hole" method because the wires can snap off the fader knob. I would suggest ebay...

You may be able to find one at one of the salvage places too, but that is always a hit/miss.

I just installed rear speakers and a fader on my 97. I bought the fader kit from wingstuff.com and the speakers from Amazon.
The instructions suggested drilling a hole in the ignition cover, but I mounted mine inside the left pocket. There was plenty of wire to let the pocket hang if I remove it and it plugs in right behind the pocket into the harness.
