Engine Rattle

Postby Goldwingshodan » Tue May 21, 2013 7:52 pm

I am experiencing a sparadic rattling coming from the engine of my 1998 1500 SE. It seems to be coming from the area between the foot pegs. It does not seem to effect the performance of the bike.

I don't have a clue what it would be specifically but...the only thing I could suggest would be to remove all the plastic and inspect for loose engine mounts, broken mounting tabs, loose covers, loose bolts on the exhaust covers, cracks in the frame,a tool rattling on top of the block.....

I found a 10mm box end wrench behind the air cleaner on mine...
I guess it depends on the rattle.....Does it vibrate the pegs or just something you hear?

Just had another thought. The alternator is coupled to the engine through rubber blocks.
If they were bad it might cause a vibration.
Just an idea.

It does seem to have a small vibration in the foot pegs when it rattles.

Sorry I can't just point to the problem.Just a generic answer.
If you bring it by,I'd be more than happy to burn up a tank of fuel testing it.
