1997 GL1500 trailer wiring diagram.

Postby Davek80514 » Thu May 23, 2013 9:53 am

I'm helping a friend wire his 1997 Gl1500 for a trailer. Can someone help us out and provide a wiring diagram we can use? He bought a isolator from cyclemax but it doesn't seem to be working correctly so he wants to just wire it directly. Any help would be appreciated.

If the trailer he plans to pull has the typical combined run/turn/brake lights (like a HF trailer), then you also need to wire in a 5 pin to 4 pin trailer harness, as the wing has separate turn and stop/run lights.

I just finished building and wiring a trailer to tow behind my 1500, using both the isolator and the 5 to 4 wiring harnesses and everything works great. Make sure you ground the trailer lights to the trailer frame!

He's putting on a Escapade trailer connector. I think it's a 6 pin with power to run the light inside the escapade trailer.

There's no reason the harness from Cycle max shouldn't work for the trailer's tail/run/brake lights, wired as per the instructions. Only thing different will be adding a fused power wire, which you should hook up to a relay activated power source.
Make sure all the ground points on the trailer (including bulbs) are good

We get tail lights but the turn signals and brake lights don't work. He's thinking about just wiring direct without the isolator.

Don't do that. You'll end up overloading your bike's signaling system, lights won't flash at the correct rate, switches will burn out early...bad things.

hello. All is right but first take a test light an check an is if the harness on the motorcycle was wire right. right down what color wire is for each one some people well revert the color code an it make it a little hard to wire the trailer need check to for color code some one may have change it. try this you should not have no problem fix it.
