Turn Signals not working

Postby Sidcar » Sat May 25, 2013 4:04 am

Sods Law. Ive just retorqued the steering head bearings and now the indicators don't work. The indicators flash using the Hazard Warning switch but not the indicator switch. The turn signal cancelling unit is connected.
Any ideas?
I have a 12v feed to the blue/black and white/green wires at the cancelling unit connector. Bridging the blue/black and green wires gets the left flasher working which indicates the flasher unit is ok.

Sorry bridging the blue/black green wires allows right and left indicators to work normally so it's possible the self cancelling unit has failed.
Can these be tested?

Sid.

Being that the turn canceler unit is removed to torque the steering head bearings, I'd look directly at, or more likely, its connector. Make sure the connector is clean and well seated, and that all of the wires are firmly in place. I doubt the canceler itself would pick this very moment to fail, it's most likely as a result of being manipulated around while being removed/replaced.

My thoughts exactly so I took the canceller off, pulled the wire out of the stem tube and reconnected it so I could make sure all the wire connections were good, still no flashers. I've tried wiggling the wires around the connector in case one has an internal break.
The manual shows a test procedure but it looks like you have to remove one of the lower fairing panels which I haven't got time to do just now.
The sun is shining for the first time in ages I want to be riding the thing not repairing it.
